Singapore table tennis wins championship. Is there any glory?
Singapore had just won the table tennis championship in Moscow against the China team! Isn't Singapore team made up of china players too? Doesn't that makes it China A team versus China B team? There are different approaches to this question.
People who think that there is glory for Singapore winning the championship will agree that the Singapore-China players win the title as a Singaporean. People who disagree says that those players are bought from china, they are not matured from singapore at a young age.
In winning the championship, I believe that more people will know of Singapore and there is absolute glory for singapore. People know of how great Singapore is in for the sports of table tennis.
Even though they were bought from China, they players were trained in Singapore for a certain period of time before they had their stage in this sports. Looking from another angle, this china players was bought from china and only get training in here for a few years time only. Even though they represent Singapore, but they are still China people in the end.
Overall, I believe that there is glory for the china players and Singapore whom they nurtured the china players for a certain period of time.
World Cup: How does it affect office/ school productivity?
World cup which is held once every four year is most exciting event on earth. Most football fans are willing to give up some of their sleep just to catch every matches, which is broadcast between 10pm to 4am. But does it affect productivity when they are just catching just a few hours of sleep?
They are willing to give up a day work or school by getting an MC because they could not wake up due to the late soccer match last night. This will surely affect productivity. If workers do not report to work because of the late match, the company will be short handed and it will slow down productivity. If students do not report to school, the only missing out is them.
In my opinion, if they choose to watch the late matches, they must have the responsibility to wake up the next day to report on time for their duty. Watching late night football matches should not be an excuse to not report for duty.
But the problem is even if they were to report for duty the next day, will they be feeling sleepy or fresh? Even if they came to work but feeling sleepy, it will also affect the productivity. Overall, everyone has the right to enjoy late football match. But they must also have the responsibility to report for duty the next day feeling fresh too. It is wrong to prioritize world cup before their career or studies.
World Cup: Does it promote social ills such as gambling addiction?
It happens once every four years. The excitement of the people yelling whenever a nice approach or a goal is scored by their supporting team. Also because of the world cup fever, there has been increasing people who bet who football.
Betting on football may cause gambling addiction. Non gamblers may start to bet on football and get addicted to it. If they are addicted to it, their family members and people around them will get affected the most easily. The worst scenario would be they borrowing money from illegal source andnot able to pay up after losing all.
World cup bring football fans around the world together but they also promote betting on football, gambling. However, if one were to be persistent, they will not have gambling addiction during the world cup season. Betting on a few matches is alright, but not to the extent of betting heavily on most matches until they lost everything.
In my opinion, World cup does not promote social ills such as gambling addiction. Instead, it promote the spirit of football which everybody come together to support and cheer for their favourite team. If they are persistent enough, it is impossible for world cup easily to affect them having a gambling addiction.
Is there Racial Harmony in Singapore?
Racial Harmony plays a important part, especially in Singapore, a multi ethnic country. Without racial harmony, there will be no tolerance and understanding between the different races and religions. If further worsen, history will repeat, riots and fights will brought up. This will take alot of time for the damage to be repair. Be it emotionally or physically.
Singapore had practice racial harmony very well. It held often held campaigns and events to promotes racial harmony and stress the importance of it. Children were also brought up learning the importance of racial harmony.
Between understanding and tolerance, understanding other religion and race play a more important part in maintaining racial harmony. Only with understanding, then it will have tolerance.
By understanding other races, we will learn about their culture. Then we will know what to prevent saying in front of them. This will maintain the peace in a multi ethnic society like Singapore.
However if people only tolerate and not understand other races, this will only cause the problem between races to increase, like a snowball. Until one day when an individual cannot take it, there will once again be riot. This is because understanding between races is not applied.
Racial harmony is indeed important for a country like Singapore. Without it, there will be riots and misunderstanding among the different races.
Ipad
A magical and revolutionary product, the Ipad. days before the Ipad is launch, people are already camping outside Apple retail store, just wanting to be the first batch of customers to own the newest product in earth. Apple new products has always become a hype amongst consumer, and certainly is the Ipad
No other company had invented something similar to the Ipad. Consumers wants to get their hands on the Ipad because it is cool and they could show it to their friends that they have the newest product. So what's with the hype about the Ipad? Isn't it just a enlarged version of the Itouch, only they included the 3G function to it?
With the price of the Ipad, people are able to get a netbook with every aspects better than the Ipad. As technology is advancing at a fast speed, people tend to always look out for the latest technology products. Even though the Ipad is somewhat a enlarged version of the Itouch, many people will still want to lay their hands on the Ipad because overall, it is a new technology.
Love it or hate it, Ipad is sold out in the first day of its launch and had sold 3 million units worldwide till now. By looking at the achievement of the Ipad, will you say that it is a new technology or just an enlarged version of the Itouch?
Floods in Singapore: Who should be blame?
Singapore is once again affected badly by the flooding season. Will Orchard Road become the next Venice? Millions of dollars loses have been incurred and who should actually take up the cost and the blame? In my opinion, no one should be blame for this major flood. Forecaster did not predicted that there will be a heavy flood. I believe if they have predicted that there will be an upcoming flood, measures will be taken to prevent floods invading into shopping malls.
Since the flood had happen, the government had come up with a few solutions and measures. They modified the drainage system which can help to block the litters and the leaves and enhance faster flow of water. Some shopping malls has also came up with the sandbag idea which practically they use to prevent the flood from entering the mall. The sandbag is not only an eyesore, but they also make the shopping malls to look like an warzone.
The problem is, do all this actually reduce the consequences of the flood? Even though new drainage system is created, it is also not enough to let the water quickly flow through, which result in another flood. Even though sandbag is use, they only let the flood to be concentrated in the middle of orchard, which makes transport even more difficult. Also, when it starts to rain heavily again, people have to quickly get those heavy sandbag and place it infront of the mall which makes it too inefficient.
I believe what Singapore can do is to discuss this problem with the engineers and suggest new ways to prevenet a huge flood in the future.
Animal abuse
Animals may suffer from abuse and cruelties; alot in fact is unintentional. Be it emotionally or physically, either way have hurt animal badly.
Abusing of animal is surely against the law and will be punish by it. I also believe that people who actually abuse animals is certainly not right in their mind. Since animals cannot speak for themselves, abuser will think that they will be able to escape from the law as nobody knows. But they are certainly wrong. SPCA officers are always patrolling around to prevent cases of animal abuse before it's too late.
Stricter laws had also been enforced to prevent the rise of animal abuse. This will make animal abuser to think twice before abusing it. The punishment is up to 12 months of imprisonment and maximum of $10,000 fine. But the problem is, is this actually enough? Abuser tend to go back to their same old way even after they have been punished.
A gracious not only made up of beautiful environment, educated citizens and latest infrastructure, there must also be empathy, kindness, humanity towards other occupants on the earth, including animals. What we can do is to educate younger generations to learn to love animals and teach them the values of humanity, tolerance, kindness and empathy. I believe when they are being teach and grow up by these values, they will certainly have humanity and empathy towards people and others occupants on this earth too.

Some people find themselves superior compared to animals and thus disrespect animals by abusing them. The likely victims of animal abuse are normally domestic pets like dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and more.
Recently, there has been a case in Singapore where a woman was caught beating her dog with a bunch of sticks on video.I find this owner inhumane as her reason for hitting her dog is totally unacceptable. She claimed on disciplining her dog for biting cushions by using the bunch of sticks to hit her dog's head repeatedly leaving the poor dog yelping and cowering in a corner.Being a dog owner, she should have known that her dog being a puppy chew because their gums are painful and itchy when teething. She should have used proper ways to discipline her dog like giving a stern "no" .Being a puppy,it is still young and playful so she should buy chew toys for the puppy to solve it's chewing tendencies .
The Agri-Food and veterinary Authority(AVA) will not hesitate to take action against owners if there is sufficient evidence of cruelty and the penalties can be a fine of $10000 and/or imprisonment of 12 months.
Animal owners should be compassionate and responsible, abusing animals is a wrong and very inhumane behavior. In the first place, they buy their pets because they find them lovely and cute so how can they end up abusing their pets?

Floods are inevitable therefore nobody is at blame. The floods have caused businesses to be disrupted, goods of affected businesses to be damaged, inconvenience to be brought to the lives of residents living at low-lying areas where their furnitures and electrical appliances were damaged. It is natural for the people who were affected by the flood to be fustrated but people understand the situation as the floods were suddden and unpredictable.
However, the Public Utilities Board (PUB) had a small part to play in the resulted floods as clogged drains was one of the factors that led to the floods. They neglected the checks of the the drainage systems therefore were unaware that the drains were clogged.
The government is trying to keep the flash floods under control by placing sand bags along orchard road and low-lying areas that are likely to be affected by the floods. The government is also improving on the drainage network and stepping up alert systems to alert to residents and businesses so as to limit the impact of future floods.
Singapore is a small country therefore there is a limited amount of space that we can dig underground and create run-offs for canals. There are very limited ways where Singapore can prevent floods from happening.

-iPad
One of the common characteristic that most of the Singaporean has is “Kia Shu”. 1 or 2 days before iPad is released in Singapore, there are people queuing up for that electronics.
Technology is becoming more and more advance. Nicer and better computers are created. In the past, computers are so huge and heavy. Now there is laptop weighing 1.6kg only. Technology also brings us lots of convenience, like contacting and chatting with your loved ones who stay far away from you. However, the killing radiation is higher than before. More advance stuffs will have higher radiation which is harmful to us. It might not kill you immediately, but as time passes, your body cells might have been killed thousands of it.
Recently, Apple sued over iPad overheating. According to the complaint, the tablet “turns off, sometimes after just a few minutes of use” under direct sunlight. And “Four people burned themselves after they touched the device, which had overheated during charging”.
Incidents like these happened, yet many people still buy the new technology, iPad. What’s the reason behind this? Arrogant.

Floods in Singapore
Who should bear the responsibility?
The one who built and designed ION Orchard Shopping Centre and government should bear the responsibility. There have not been heavy flood occurring in Singapore town area. Why would this happen once ION Orchard is built? Hence, I think those people who built that building should be put onto the blame of causing the flood.
I didn’t know about how serious that flood had cause people in Orchard with many disadvantage, after watching a Mr. Brown Show video. Many cars have been flooded with water; beautiful streets have been destroyed and inconveniency has taken place.
Important measures like safety should take into consideration before building at a certain places. Orchard is a shopping heaven in Singapore. Many shopping centers are located just next to each other; is there any big drain for water to contain just in case of flood? I think Singapore government should look into these matters. Solution should be found and solved. So that in future, people doesn’t have to worry about flooding while shopping anymore.
However, they should not be put onto ALL the blames. Flood is a nature disease. We wouldn’t know when a super heavy flood will occur anywhere and anytime.

Is there racial harmony in spore?
If yes, do you think it is based on understanding or tolerance?
Yes. Religion has a powerful influence on the values, attitudes and behaviours of the people.
In Singapore, we are fortunate to have responsible religious and community leaders who speak up for shared values, tolerate differences, and understand and respect diversity. We treat all religion with respect. However, I feel that it is by tolerance in order to achieve that racial harmony in Singapore.
To be honest, I’m quite racist towards the Indians. Body smell and colour make me get away from them. Especially those Bangladesh workers! I seriously hate them to death! The way they look at people and behavour in public were unacceptable. You will always feel uneasy when you walk pass a group of Bangladesh people. Although these people are from Bangladesh, but they make me hated Indians in Singapore.
Of course, I will not tell them straight on their face that I hate them or stare at them with a dislikeable expression. Whenever there is an Indian approaching towards me, walking away is my solution.
Many feel that there is racial harmony in Singapore, but actually there isn’t. Many times we would hear quarrels from different race around the neighbour area. And there is many times we are unhappy with each other acts, but we will let it off instead of arguing back because we are sick and tired of it. Tolerant.

Singapore is a multi-racial country, and yes, there is racial harmony in Singapore. The racial harmony that Singapore possess is mainly based on understanding as most of us do not feel like we are being forced to tolerate one another, having to tolerate one another will not have resulted in the many decades of racial harmony.
We all grew up with friends of different races because majority of the schools in Singapore have mixed races. All races have an equal standing in Singapore,no race is more superior than the other. There is no differentiation when it comes to making friends to most of us.Singapore is unique for the mix of cultures that exist in Singapore, different races can learn the different cultures from one another.Take for example, during festive occasions like Chinese New Year, some chinese invite friends and neighbours of another race to their house to share and experience the joyous occasion and vice versa.
Many food centres sell food from the four different races, there is Indian food like roti prata,Malay food like satay,Chinese food like mee pok and Western food like fish and chips. All these local food have made Singapore a food paradise to the locals and tourists.
I am proud to be a Singaporean because it is a unique country and people of different races are able to blend well with each other without disputes and everyone can live in peace and harmony.

No one such bear responsibility for this as it is a natural disaster. It is not caused by man but by nature. The floods in Singapore are inevitable as recently there has been a lot of burning and causing a lot of humidity in the air, therefore making it rain even more. For the past few months, it was very warm in Singapore but lately, it has been raining so often, the weather has completely changed from humid and warm to cold and windy.
The weather is very favorable to some however, if it continues to rain heavily every day, the drainage will not be able to drain the rain water fast enough and Singapore will be flooded faster.
With the constant flooding in Singapore, most of the construction has been put on hold causing a hold on the circle line completion and schools like CHIJ St. Nicholas girls school to be put on hold.
The government said that orchard will not flood because it has a very good drainage system, unfortunately, that statement was wrong as orchard has been flooding almost every other day if it rains heavily. The shops that are situated underground and car parks will be flooded and causing these shops to lose their business and their spoiling their equipment. This is not the government’s fault as they did not see this disaster coming and it was a sudden change of weather.
The government is doing their best to keep the flooding under control by placing sandbags in front of wheel locks basement shops to prevent it from flooding so quickly. By having these sandbags, it will absorb the water and at the same time slow down the water from flowing to the basement shops. Shops like “Starbucks” or “Wendy’s” and “Hermes” have been temporary closed due to the flood and it has spoiled their electricity, which is now under renovation.
The flooding in Singapore is not as bad compared to other countries like China. China has 701 people dead from the flooding and almost a thousand people injured. People have lost their homes and their property because of the flooding, whereas we only have a few spoiled cars and shops, so we should be thankful.

I agree that there is racial harmony in Singapore, because without it, Singapore will be having racial riots and fighting with their neighbors constantly. Singapore has strong beliefs that Singaporean should mix around different races when they are young, from kindergarten and when they are in primary school. They should be mixing with all different type of races; Chinese, Indian, Malays and the Eurasians.
They all learning in the same environment and playing in the same environment. The teacher should not teach the Indian students lesser things than the Chinese because of their race. They should all be equal standing; everyone has a right to an equal education.
I think racial harmony to certain people is based on tolerances, while others, it is based on understanding. Some Chinese might be very racist therefore they tend to mind their own business and occasionally make some racist remark about their next door neighbor because he left the rubbish outside on the corridor and saying how inconsiderate he is.
For those people who live in harmony based on understanding are those neutral parties, they have nothing against the other races and they feel that if they do not do anything to anger them, everything will be fine. An occasion greeting like “hello “or “good morning” would be good, or even a short conversation about how it has been raining so heavily in Singapore lately.
Singapore has managed their racial harmony well as they have a holiday for different race and religion, no one is left out. Singapore makes every race and religion feel important, she has built different places of worship for different religion and school to have different mother tongue languages; Tamil, Chinese or Malay, which is compulsory.

Privacy is still relevant.A common example of privacy intrusion which most of us dislike is when other people just read through our text messages in our mobile phones without permission and i find this behaviour rude. Everyone has information about themselves which they want to be kept confidential.
Most people own an account on online social networks like Facebook and Twitter while some own blogs where they can voice out their opinions and share the happenings in ther lives with friends but people should take note of the information they post because anyone can gain access to these information when it is online. They should not include information that are too personal(contact number, address etc.) because other people might misuse these information and that can cause trouble. In short, what they want to be kept confidential should never appear on the internet.
Often, online surveys are conducted by companies for customers to fill up.People should consider before disclosing any information, especially contact details because some companies might call you up frequently to promote or ask you questions about their products and this can be quite irritating.
Sure enough, social networks are useful as it helps you to keep up with friends but if we want the privacy,we should not disclose unnecessary information.

However technologies nowadays allows invasion of privacy easily. Such as Facebook, twitter, cell phone, blog and even most popular search engine, Google. People around you are able to access other party information easily. One can use "GoogleMap" to trace other people house. Harmful intention may occur because of the google map. Facebook users are able to 'stalk' other people easily. It will become more of a internet harassment if they post something hurtful on other people wall. In the USA, a girl found out that her mother had added her in facebook and they become close friend. In the end, the girl committed suicide as she felt 'cheated' of her feelings.
Although technology invades people's privacy, they also have good uses of it. A lot of crimes are solve by the use of technology. Crimes ranging from robbery to even terrorist in the USA. Technology is able to trace a criminal location and make it easier to solve the crime.
Overall, it depends on how people uses the advanced technology nowadays. If people make bad use of the technology, it will surely be hurtful for the people around them by invading their privacy. If people make good use of it, then there will be a better world and safer environment for people of the world to live in.

Qns: Is privacy still relevant given today’s hyper-connected world of online social networking?
Yes. Privacy is still needed for everyone, even though online networking is super outgoing. Who don’t need privacy? Even kids nowadays also will require for privacy from their parents.
As more and more people are realizing, we often reveal a lot of information about ourselves when we go online, information we may not realise we're disclosing, but which advertisers and commercial websites can use to sell us goods and services. Other times, websites and advertisers seem to magically know our interests.
They can do this because of cookies, little text files created on your computer that contains information left there by the websites you visit.
These people are really very irritating! We all need our privacy. Daily calls or emails have seriously invaded others privacy which is really rude and uncivil.
Above situations is outsider who invaded individual’s privacy, but there is any problem with privacy issue which is self-examination.
Online networking has brought us many benefits such as contact easily with family members and friends. As well as knowing your friends better through varies networking like Facebook or blogs.
Let’s take blogs as example. Firstly, blogs is like a website or a net working place for people to voice out their opinions or thoughts. Sadly, people miss-use the advantage of blogging. People intent to type out ALL their feelings and thoughts, some are not even relevant. These people creates “no” privacy for themselves. Don’t they need privacy? Why must let others know ALL about you?
Privacy is very important. Everyone needs to have privacy.

World cup 2010; Does it promote social ills such as gambling addiction?
GOAL! That’s what all World Cup fans will want to shout out for. Some are happy because their country has won, but some are happy because they have won money. Gambling is one of the most risky things to do. And it is easily addicted just like drugs. In Singapore, normally people either go to the nearby Singapore Pool to queue up for 4D or gamble for football. In the year 2010, World Cup is the most popular game that most gamblers will gamble for. I’m not a World Cup fans but I do look out for the scoring of the battle. From what I know, this year World Cup 2010 is a big revolution. Strong teams are becoming weaker and used to be a weak team is becoming stronger! It is an unexpected result that many people didn’t predict for.
This time, many gambles have lost lots of money. From the latest newspaper, a male teacher lost $130,000 in World Cup bets. He has no choice but to sell away his 2-year-old car. I must say that teacher is not smart enough to be a teacher; in fact he does not fit to be a teacher.
World Cup is just a competition that proves which countries’ football is the best in the world. It does not promote social ills such as gambling addiction. The problem is lies on those people who love to gamble! Gamblers either choose to control themselves or face the consequences. World Cup is a game for football lovers.

Yes, I believe that privacy is still relevant. Even though the world is being connected via internet and mobile phones, people should still be allowed to maintain certain levels of privacy. People do not want to know what you are doing 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
For example, the famous bloggers Xiaxue, and her website (www.xiaxue.blogspot.com) is one of the most visited blog in Singapore along side with Dawn yang (www.clapbangkiss.xanga.com) they are Singapore’s female most visited bloggers and Singaporeans, mainly girls, tend to look up to them. I do read Xiaxue’s blog regular and whatever she writes is hilarious.
I tried to have a blog myself when I was younger, I was inspired to be like Xiaxue, a famous blogger. This would allow me to work from home and get the free perks so that people would want me to advertise their items. I stopped blogging because it was time consuming and my life wasn’t that interesting as I hoped it would be.
There are such websites for facebook, twitter and Friendster which allows you share your personal photos with the world or your friends and also update your status. For instants, what you are currently doing and if your friends on facebook agree with your status, they would click the “like” button to like your status, or they could comment on your status. Facebooks, owns every single pictures that is uploaded. Whatever picture that uploaded on facebook, they can sell these pictures without your permission.
The hyper connect of the social networking has its down side. This is how so many sex tapes are appearing on the internet. They are leaked from an unknown source and the people how uploaded the tape doesn’t respect the person’s privacy. And how celebrities stalked by paparazzi, whatever they do, the next day the whole world will know. They can’t even go to the hospital without letting the whole world know.
We are not celebrities, we have the right to own privacy but it depends on individual. It depends how much of your privacy you want to reveal and to share with the world.

How does it affect office/school productivity?
World Cup is a highly anticipated soccer event that happens only once every four years.Soccer fans look forward to this event because countries around the world send their best soccer team to compete against the teams of other countries.During the World Cup season, many people stay up late to watch matches that take place at 2.30 am.
When this happens, people spend lesser time to sleep and thus become lethargic during the day.Take for example, students who stay up late to catch the match are likely to fall asleep during lessons because they only had two to three hours of sleep. When the students return home after school, they would probably take a nap or relax until the next soccer match starts because they did not pay attention in class and find it difficult to complete the work that have been assigned to them. With that, the academic results of the students are bound to drop as they do not learn much during lessons and they neglect their schoolwork and revision.
The same theory applies to working professionals.Due to the lack of sleep, working professionals find it hard to concentrate during work.Their performance level drops, giving their superiors a bad impression of them.
World Cup is definitely an exciting event but people should make sure that they get enough rest for the next day, that way their performance level in their studies and work will not be affected.

The World cup may affect some adults and students, mainly those who are soccer fans. They are willing to stay up until 4am to watch a match. They are willing to give up sleep just to watch a 90 minutes game. However I wouldn’t blame them as the World cup only comes every 4 years.
The students and adults would be tired the next morning as they have stayed up all night watching soccer. For an average student, waking up at 6 A.M. every morning can be quite draining already and may be quite difficult for some students to do. If the match ends at 4am, the student would only have 2 hours of sleep, this can cause the student to do badly in school because of the lack of sleep, and he might also sleep in class, causing inconvenience for himself and his teachers. He is sabotaging himself by sleeping in class and not paying attention to the teachers.
For the adults, they are slightly better off than the students as they have more time to sleep as they only start work at 8.30 A.M some even 9 A.M, they can afford to snooze more. They might be sloppy at work therefore the office productivity would decrease as they would be too tired to work or do anything properly.
On the other hand, being an adult allows them to bet on the game. Some of them might get addicted to betting on soccer, which is also known as gambling. The thrill of watching their favorite country winning and also betting on that team is indeed exhilarating as they would win money, unfortunately many people go into debts because of betting on soccer, they bet large sums of money and when they lose, they lose big.
They do not know how to limit themselves and control their gambling urges. It all boils down to the individual, if they can manage their time well, their productivity wouldn’t be affected that much, for example the students would have to study during the afternoon in order to sleep early and wake up in time for the match. That way, he does well in school and doesn’t get a scolding for not doing his homework from the teachers.

Let's keep Singapore the cleanest city the world. We have achieved it in the past, and we can achieve it again.
In the past, one of our fights against littering was a total ban on chewing gum. Today, our fight must include the total ban on flyers - a cheap, inconsiderate form of advertisement.
I prefer television commercial or banners than flyers. Although flyers are faster to advertise the goods and services, it causes much harm to our environment. Cutting down of trees and littering are increasing rapidly.
Of course I’m not saying that companies are at fault for creating all this littering. People who received the flyers should be responsible as well. If you are not interested with the paper advertisement, you should throw it in a dustbin rather than the floor.
Another thing that flyers annoyed me is the people who distribute those flyers. As we can see them very often in the MRT stations, shopping streets or even outside your house. Those who distribute flyers along the shopping streets and MRT station are the most irritating ones. Imaging you’re rushing to school or work, they will try to stop your way and make you take the flyers. Even if you’ve said you don’t want, some will still force you. I hate these people!
Advertising using the flyers matter is not the most efficient way. It not only creates litter, it also used up valuable natural resources such as trees. Flyers should be banned!

Flyers are everywhere these days;they are handed out on the streets, distributed into household letterboxes and even right up to your doorstep.I feel that flyers should be banned because the world is placing an emphasis for people to start saving gaia. With so many flyers being distributed by companies every day, more trees are being cut down to produce paper for their advertising purposes.People just take a quick look at what the flyer has to offer and throw it into the nearest rubbish bin.
On the streets, people get irritated when someone tries to make them take the flyer by getting in their way.Distributing flyers is a form of advertisement but it is not the most effective way.Perhaps companies should try to advertise their products and services on television and newspapers where they can reach the majority of the public.
That way, they can do their part to save Earth by reducing the wastage of papers and advertise in a more effective way.

Most of the flyers that are shoved into our mail box are rather redundant. Yes, they inform the public of various sales, or the opening of yet another tuition centre, but more often than not, this information is not very useful to most. However, I feel that they shouldn’t be banned as this is a cheaper alternative than having their promotions or their advertising material printed in the newspapers.
Having an advertisement printed in a newspaper can be very expensive for some new companies as they do not have their fixed income yet and printing flyers and giving them out is a lot cheaper. However, some might feel that flyers should be banned as it fills their mail boxes and they find this irritating. This is why people who reside in HDB flats are able to “lock” their mailboxes to block spam mail, only allowing the post man access to their mailbox.
Several companies might hire part timers such as young teenagers to give out flyers for $5.50an hour. I have done so before, they would reject the flyers or even if they take them, they take one look at it and toss it into the garbage. What is the point of giving out flyers? A number of people who are hired to give out flyers are very forceful; they would push you to take their flyers.
In conclusion, flyers should not be banned - instead, they should be given out in moderation. They are a good source of advertising and sometimes can be quite informative to some people, for example if there’s a sale at courts or if a new tuition centre has opened in the vicinity.

It is felicitous news about Singapore Table Tennis have finally won championship in table tennis. Singapore beat China 3-1 in the World Team Table Tennis Championship. It a great honor to Singapore, as created history, because in 19 years, no one has beaten them (China)."
In my opinion, I’m having a mix feeling about it. I will not feel VERY proud about it, as we all know that the players are not the real citizens of Singapore. Although they (players) are PR [Permanent Resident] of Singapore now, they can still consider as the china citizens. It is a great honor to Singapore indeed; however, what will other countries like China think of it? Will they think that Singapore DO have talented people? Well, they might have the same feelings as the some of us; “yes, Singapore won but it’s the CHINA people who are actually winning”
They are still the players under the “foreign talent”. I do not disagree with Singapore’s government about attracting foreign talent, but too much focusing on foreign talent and neglected true Singaporeans' talent is too unfair to our own citizens. Singapore does have their own talented people.
Of course there's still be supporter who believe that it is a glory to Singapore. I also feel happy that Singapore has a championship finally, after so much effort. We also can’t blame them *players for “used to be a china citizen”, maybe in china there are too many competitors, hence here is a place where they can really show out their talent. And they really did win for Singapore, that’s the fact. We should thank them at the same time. Without them, other countries might not treat us *Singapore as a sport competitive country.

There is indeed some glory for Singapore, but it's not the true blue Singapore hard work. It's imported foreign talent from China. They are imported in from other countries to help win a medal or two for Singapore. They are PR, permanent residents, and their purpose here in Singapore is to help us win glory and medals for Singapore.
Some Singaporeans feel that ultimately, it is still a “China versus China” competition. These people come from china and them here living in Singapore and fighting against their home country. Do they know how to sing the Singapore national anthem?
However, other Singaporean feels that winning glory for Singapore is important. Singapore does not have a strong athlete base as they are fighting against strong countries like USA and China. China’s population is 1,324,655,000 in 2008 and 307,006,550 in USA in 2009 and Singapore only has 4 million. They difference it so large, therefore they would be more people who are talented in sports and they can afford to have more athlete take part in such games.
I feel PR (china) winning for Singapore is not genuine, as it’s not the hard work of a real Singapore but a hard work and training by the mainland China. I do believe that it’s good for Singapore to win such games as it gives us some recognize that we exist and that we are just as competitive as other countries.

Singapore Table tennis women team won the world table tennis championships in Moscow. This is something Singapore is happy about.History is made for Singapore because for 19 years ,no one had won China. The championship title brought glory to Singapore to a certain extent.
The table tennis women team is made up of foreign talent and this has brought about many discussions among people. Some people feel that it is okay for foreign talent to win glory for Singapore while others feel that it will be more appropriate for Singaporeans to win glory for the country.I feel that it is okay for foreign talent to live and work in Singapore because their contributions will be able to help Singapore's economy progress.Singapore do not have any natural resources,we depend largely on human resource. Therefore, with foreign talent, the human resource in Singapore will increase.
However, when it concerns worldwide events like Olympic games, where every country is supposed to send their country's representatives to participate, only Singaporeans should be involved. In the recent World Table Tennis Game,Singapore won the championships but many people had an opinion regarding the title bacause it was won by foreign talent and not Singaporeans. In that way, people might feel that this title is not truly earned.
In this society, I believe that teenagers nowadays are mostly well behaved. However, there are also a handful of them who are not. This not well behaved teenagers often not only misbehave when they are at home, they even misbehave in public. From what I have see, the most common one is them using vulgarities in public, as and when they like. Not only they are degrading them self, people around them will also feel annoyed and insulted.
I believe what causes this is due to a lack of moral education. However the school has been teaching us moral education ever since we attended primary school. In home, our parents also teaches us to be well behaved and ban us from using vulgarities. So what exactly went wrong? It may be cause by peer influence. When one sees their peer being rude, they will imitate and slowly they will catch the bad habits.
People around those rude teenagers may actually speak to them and not scold them about their disrespectful way to other people. I believe if things were to be talk in a calm manner and not by scolding them, rude teenagers will gradually change their behavior and be a better person.

From my point of view, children should be the ones who need etiquette lesson. Reason because learning the right way to respect and behave properly in public from young will be easier. Hence, they will grow up with the good discipline and manner.
Nowadays, teens' behaviour is really unacceptable. From the way they speak and react, vulgar language and inappropriate actions will get involved. Recently, i was having my lunch with my mum in Macdonald. Sitting next to us, was a bunch of young adults talking and laughing loudly in public. Many customers, not just us, were looking at them with a bad expression. Having knowing that their behaviour in public is horrible, they still continue their conversation by laughing loudly! Worst still, vulgarises lash out many time too.
From this, i think that parents or school should really teach teens the discipline of attitude. Speaking loudly in public is already a disrespectful was, yet saying vulgarises is way too much!
The most important role behind all teens is their parents. Parents should teach their children about respect from the very beginning when kids entering kindergarten. Let them know what an appropriate person should behave in certain occasion. Etiquette lesson should be organise in secondary school, however it can be occasionally lesson like once a month. Not only the parents and school should teaches the teens, teens themselves must listen to the adviser. Teens must really take all the advice into consideration and improve their attitude. Try not to get closer with people that behave rudely, as teens might get influence easily. No matter how many disciplines and lessons been taught, teens will still behave inappropriately if they don't listen.

Some teens these days lack etiquette. An example would be during lessons, students talk over the voice of the teacher and this causes irritation to the teacher because she would have to strain her throat to speak louder than them.Another example would be teens talking and laughing loudly in MRT trains and buses, which may affect the people around them. Some teens like to use many vulgarities in their conversations which may make some of their friends feel uncomfortable.
I feel that schools and parents should inculcate etiquette into their children since young.Parents also play an important role by practising etiquette to set a good example for their children to follow.
Schools should arrange etiquette lesssons for students. That way, teens will be able to get a better idea of the right behaviour to potray and thus be ableto present themselves better in public.

Now a days, teenagers are more liberal and they do whatever they want. They have no fear of higher authority. However there are some teenagers that are still decent and have proper manners. It depends on the upbringing of these students. For example, students from co-ed schools usually get involved in boy-girl relationships. This isn't as common in single sex schools as students from these schools do not get as many opportunities to interact with the opposite sex.
Some students are teens in need of etiquette lessons in school but not all of them are. They need to know how to behave outside of school and also in school as they are in their school uniform and people would know which school they belong to, members of public tend to lodge complaints against students who behave in an unsavory manner. If this happens, it can question the values that the school is inculcating in the students. This will not reflect well on the school or the teachers.
However in other countries such as America and Australia, the students there are much more violent. They would pick a fight outside of school, vandalize private property and most of them would shout vulgarities at one another.
Schools should conduct some etiquette lessons for those trouble making students, teaching students that they should respect themselves as well as those around them. Whatever they do affects the people surrounding them.

Most of the people around the world own a facebook account, this network has brought people closer together. In many cases, people are able to find their long-lost friends on facebook and thus be able to stay in contact.Others use facebook on a daily basis to add friends and stay connected with them by writing on each other's walls and sending each other messages.Users can also upload photos to show their friends.
In the recent news, the Pakistani court banned the use of Facebook in Pakistan until 31st May because a facebook page called "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!" was being set up.Some Muslims were upset to know that sketches of Prophet Muhammad were sent in to this facebook page. This issue touches on religion therefore it is sensitve.
In facebook, people should know what to do and what not to do because it is a common social network that people around the world share. If everybody shows responsibilty in facebook, unhappy situtions will not arise.

Millions of people out there have created a social networking site called the Facebook. Facebook is a common and well-known web site that most of us have nowadays. Users can add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. Additionally, users can join networks organized by workplace, school, or college.
I, myself, have a Facebook account and i must say that Facebook is really a very convenient and a useful way of interacting with people around you. Not just people who you know, even people from other countries far away that you never seen them before.
While some user uses Facebook for gaming, socialize, enlightenment or negotiation, people also uses Facebook for boycott in some cases. Facebook has met with some controversy. It has been blocked intermittently in several countries including Pakistan, China and Vietnam.
Facebook banned in Pakistan is the latest news. A Facebook user set up a page called “Draw Mohammed Day”, allegedly inviting people to send in their caricatures of the Muslim Prophet on May 20. This has angry many Muslims in Pakistan, hence Facebook got to be banned in the country till 31 May,2010. Blocking the whole website would be anger users, especially young and adults, because the social networking website is too much popular among them, and they spend most of their time on it. In the very first place, the main incident creator should know the consequences of behind it.
Everyone should not misuse of any useful program.

Facbook is used in many countries, mainly by teenagers. We use Facebook to keep in touch and see what other people are doing, we can write on their walls or look at the pictures they upload or read their status updates. Instead of having to send people pictures over email or MSN, we can speed up the process by just tagging our friends in the various photographs. Regarding the privacy factor, we can block certain people from seeing our photographs or profile. Some people have a Facebook account to play mini games, one such person is my mother. Her favourite game on Facebook is Bejeweled, and she plays it on a daily basis.
People from other countries use Facebook for various reasons as well, for example, Pakistan recently blocked Facebook because people were having a Prophet Mohammed day whereby they drew his face. In Australia, the court uses Facebook to send sentences or court dates to people.
Facebook can be used for many reasons, it is up to us whether or not to abuse this wonderful social networking website. Everyone should think before they upload pictures or write anything on Facebook as these things have the ability to hurt people. Remember, once you post pictures up on Facebook, those pictures belong to them.

Social Etiquette Of Smart phones
WHERE TO DRAW THE LINE???
More and more people own a smart phone as technology improves. However, do smart phones owner know anything about SOCIAL ETIQUETTE? One perfect example: Texting while you are actually talking to another person. This is in fact very rude. Not only you neglect the other party, you are also disrespecting them. The conversation had died out the moment when you flash out your Smartphone and start to text. What will be your reaction if the same thing happens to you?
We should learn to respect each other by not flashing out smart phones when in the middle of a conversation/meeting.
However, breaking the social etiquette of smartphone is also necessary at times. Lawyer have to be 24/7 in contact for their clients. If they choose not to pick up their customer call, they will easily lose a deal. Some profession also require constant email checking and keeping in touch with people all the time. However, lawyers are not suppose to use their smartphone when they are attending a customer. That is because customer are paying huge sum in getting the lawyer advice every hour.
To sum it up, there must be a balance when using smartphone. They must learn to turn it off in important event/occasion or it will be a turn off. If people still insist on texting while they are on a important event. The best option is to head to the washroom and get their text done.

In this day and age, many people own smartphones.Smartphones offer more advanced computing ability and connectivity.People can easily gain access to the internet using this gadget, making it convenient for people to connect to social media networks like Facebook and Twitter.Users are allowed to install and run advanced applications for work and entertainment purposes.Smartphone have its advantages which makes people want to use it 24/7.
Smartphone is useful and convenient but when is the wrong time to use it?Students using their smartphones when the lesson is on,may make the teacher feel disrespected and lose the motivation to teach. Therefore, students should excuse themselves out of the classroom to use their phones to attend to important calls and smses and use their smartphones for entertainment after classes.Another situation would be using of smartphones while dining with family and friends. Many find it unacceptable when their family members and friends use their smartphones to sms, facebook and check their emails during a meal because they believe that that is the time for them to catch up with one another and not the time for social networking.
However, there are afew professions which requires the usage of smartphones almost 24/7 like lawyers. They need to be in constant contact with their clients and respond to their demands as there is intense competition among law firms and they cannot afford to lose any client.
People should choose the right time to use their smartphones to stay connected with others so that they will not be looked upon as impolite.Unhappiness and misunderstandings with this issue will then be avoided. (:

June Ang, social etiquette of Smartphone: where to draw the line?
Last friday, i was discussing a project with my partner. I'm always serious in doing project as the results involves in my GPA points. However, my partner doesn't seem to be "that" serious. I was giving my opinion for the question that we're doing, he wasn't paying attention and using his Smartphone at the same time. I felt that i was talking to the air! What kind of attitude is this? Of course, i scolded him and left the rest of the job to him.
Nowadays, phone is a common gadget that most of us have today. Who don't have a phone? It only depends whether you have the newest model or the oldest model. Smartphone is one of the most convenient machinery that brought us many benefits. Not only usable for calling, we can use Smartphone for internet access anywhere, anytime. There are many functions avaiblable in a Smartphone as well. Definitely, Smartphone will cost more expensive than a normal handphone.
Although Smartphone cost really expensive, the number of teenagers using Smartphone has increased rapidly!
Well, using a Smartphone at a young age is not a crime, but using Smartphone at the wrong timing is really a disrespectful way. Do the parents teach their child the right attitude to use a phone? Switching off phone during meeting, watching movies or during lesson time is a basic manner. However, there will definitely be someone with phone switching on during this kind of situation. This is so unacceptable! Another kind of bad habit is, using phone while someone else is talking. I understand that some people can sort of "multi task", but this is still very rude and impolite!
Looking at someone who is talking shows that you're listening and respect the speaker. This is a simple manner that not most of us follows.

Facebook is now a trend within the people around the world, regardless of their age or status. Even the President of USA, Barack Obama has it. Facebook is so popular that alot of famous people start to create one in order to stay in contact. The main purpose of facebook is for people to stay in contact with their friends.
However, facebook is ban recently in Pakistan due to Prophet Muhammad Day. The ban will only be lift till 31 May. This is to prevent people to draw caricatures of the Prophet of Islam. This was clearly a insult to the religious event and it is only right for the Pakistan Government to ban Facebook till the Prophet Muhammad Event is over.
I believe that banning Facebook in Pakistan is the right thing to do for the time being. This will prevent people from misuse it and insult Prophet Muhammad event. However, this solution is only effective in the short term. The government could actually ban Facebook in their country, just like what China and Vietnam does.

A smartphone is a mobile phone which has more advanced features than a basic phone. Basic phones can be used to send text messages and make phone calls, however smartphones can do that and more. The Blackberry, for example, has a specialised Instant Messaging (IM) system called Blackberry Messenger which allows people all over the world to communicate for free, just as long as they have a Blackberry data plan. Another function that smartphones have is Push Email, whereby the emails are sent immediately to the phone, just like a text message. It's fast and it takes communication to a whole new level.
Despite the many good points about smartphones, we have to take into consideration that there are flaws as well. Data plans can be very expensive, especially when individuals overuse their internet. Although people can choose to get an unlimited data plan, those are rather expensive as well, they cost a minimum of $60 a month, excluding the basic plan. Smartphones are useful, but the price of the phone and the plan may cost too much to make it completely worth it.
Smartphones are a good way in which we contact people and keep ourselves entertained, but because of this very fact, people may constantly check their phones at social events which can come off as impolite.
